When you say it won't start, do you mean it doesn't crank or it cranks but won't start?

When it cranks does it sound normal? Or does the engine sound like its spinning faster than normal? Does it sound like Rrrr Rrrrr Rrrr Or more like Rrrrrrrrrrr? I know hard to spell out noises. My point is, if it spins faster than normal, could be a timing belt, I've seen them break when you shut the car off or when you start it up. If it cranks normal, we'll have to look at other possibilities CarsInc

If I were diagnosing it, I would take and spray some carb cleaner in the throttle body or in thru a vacuum line in the intake plenum then put the air tube back on if removed to spray carb clean then try to start. If it starts then you have a fuel delivery issue. If not, you may not have spark. Lemme know

I have a 2010 with a full tank of gas and it wont start but cranks. Sounds right . There is a check engine light on but I don't know if Its just coming on when I try to start it and lights up when all the other lights do or if its on. A few months back it wouldn't start all the sudden for me. My husband got irritated and went and made it start and it blew a ton of black fumes out the back end. I'm guessing that the problem now is some of the same. Probably needs a tune up and fluids checked and a diagnosis done to determine what is wrong with it

Just bought a 2003 for my daughter, from close family friends. Worked great for two weeks. She was out late last night, stopped for gas, when she went to leave it wouldn't start, they tried to jump it etc. Ended up having it towed.... battery is one year old. Tried to jump it again with my truck that has a brand new battery, wont turn over at all. Doors ding, dash lights up, but when I turn key to start, nothing. nada.

Do any of your cars start after it's been sitting for a while? like an hour or overnight?

02 mits galant here. Cranks but won’t start. Tested battery- battery is good.. if we leave it overnight sometimes it will start right up. The issue seems to happen if I start the car multiple times within a small period of time.

I have no answer either. My 02 gal does same thing. Sometimes no fuel no spark. Sometimes cranks right up. When it starts , it only runs a few blocks and quits. Then it does the whole scenario again.

Listen I have the same year and model u have an mine does the same thing I did what you all did an never fixed it so I took my cover off of the time belt an notice that the crankshaft belt behind the timing belt was broke an guess what after doing that it fired right up u just got to make sure you put that 2.4 motor in time right or u will mess the hole motor up there is a bolt in the front of the motor towards the drive side under the exhaust manifold right below the 02 senior it's a 14 mm bolt all by it's self u have to take it out an turn ur oil pump gear on its mark an then make sure the screwdriver will go the hole way In where u took the bolt out if it does u got it right if it goes half way it's wrong that's when u turn the same sprocket again then it will that's where u need it to put the. Timing belt on

Thanks for all the advice everyone. My Galant was dong the same, and would not start. It ended up being a bad head gasket. I was able to test with a compression gauge. This guide, helped me narrow it down: https://www.youcanic.com/guide/mitsubishi-wont-start Unfortunately my car is going to get donated. It is not worth fixing.

I have a 2003 Galant 230k miles and it is doing almost the same thing. Mine would start periodically some days its good others it would start up once or I cant start it at all it will always crank. Starter and battery are good. Only thing is it would throw a Camshaft sensor, then it had a code for the crankshaft sensor I replaced both and it still had the same issues i noticed the connector for the camshaft sensor were a bit exposed so I replaced the entire connector however I would still get the issues. I ended up getting frustrated so i did a full tune up, changed plugs and cables, air filter oil filter and changed the oil. I don't seem to have any vacuum leaks and I've tried starter fluid tricks it doesn't really work but maybe one time but even then the ride was rough and my idles was always having trouble from preventing to stall. I'm stuck on the possibility of a faulty volume air flow sensor or maybe the IAC valve. Has anyone tried replacing these? and did it help? I'm literally about to replace everything in this engine bay. Some please help!!!! :) Everything Replaced: -Camshaft Position Sensor -Crankshaft Position Sensor -Camshaft Position Sensor Connector -Spark Plugs -Spark Plug Cables -Spark Plug Boots -Both Serpentine Belts -Air Filter -Oil Filter -Oil -Battery -Engine Cooling Fan Please Help
