1983 Dodge Ramcharger overheated and stopped running.

my son has a 1983 Dodge Ramcharger and it is overheating.  What should we
do?  He was told he needed a high quality coolant in it.

The quality of your coolant has nothing to do with overheating. Start by checking the thermostat. Does the top radiator hose get hot when the temp gauge shows it's starting to overheat if yes check the radiator it may be plugged if OK check the belt and water pump. I hope this helps. Take care.

If it doesn't run you may need to do a cylinder leak down test to see if the engine was damaged from heat.
