Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 mercury villager estate and replace this heater motor resistor,
that controls the speed of the heater motor 3 times now. what would cause
the resistor to keep going out? When it fails the only speed that works is the
highest speed setting the other speeds do not work.

I went threw 5 resistors in my car before one stayed working. Just kept bringing them back for warranty for replacement. Believe this or not but then I replaced the cabin filter as mine was pretty dirty. That seemed to help. But it is possible the blower motor itself is drawing too much power.

This makes sense about the motor that's what I was also thinking. The cabin filter was replaced about a year ago so that should be in good shape.
