01 sable started car, placed in drive but no throttle to car

Asked by Chimaera_1199 Feb 21, 2017 at 10:42 PM about the 2001 Mercury Sable LS Premium Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I started car placed in drive, and there was zero
throttle response.  Put in park then neutral still no
response from throttle.  Turned off car, taped
throttle cable and air intake.  Started car and
everything worked fine.  Could i have started car to
fast? Or is something going wrong?  This
happened once, after 3 days off running around
just fine.  Just bought the car.

No, starting the car too fast is not a problem. If there is a check engine light on, have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes. This would let you know where to look for a problem. I suspect a problem with the Throttle Positioning Sensor, and it's wire plugin. Wires have a tendency to break at the plugin inside the insulation.

After the air filter was checked by mechanic changing oil, the car didnt start. I straighten out the wiring to throttle position sensor and started right up. I changed out connection and havent had a problem since. Thank you!
