120 volt charging cable

Is it okay to leave the charging cable plugged in to power when not charging
the car?

Mechanic at Honda said to not leave it plugged in because a voltage spike could damage the cable transformer.

Voltage spikes are very rare. I do leave mine plugged in as it's possible when the garage gets too hot it will turn on its cooling system and draw power from there.
