I can not get at some of the bolts to get the transmission fluid changed.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

There is a cross member in the way of the bolts.  Does that cross member need to be
removed.  Or is there something possibly bent like the cross member that restricts access
to the bolts?  Anyone have an idea?

It will be difficult to get it back together with seals intact if you do it without removing the cross member. I haven't done that job on that car but I ran very similar issues with crossmembers in the way. So I do think the crossmember must be out of the way but... see if someone has worked on that year, maybe there is another way. ( I have heard of removing fluids with a syphon, ??? Here's one: Mityvac Fluid Transfer Pump -
