Car died while driving, won’t start

Asked by GuruZRC7N Nov 22, 2017 at 11:37 AM about the 1999 Mazda Protege 4 Dr ES Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving my 1999 Mazda Protege at around 30
mph and the engine died. I was able to pull over,
but it will not start again. The car turns on with
lights/radio/dash lights etc., and it will crank but is
not turning over. After trying to start it a few times,
my brake pedal locked up as well. From
researching, I’ve seen anything from fuel pump to
ignition module to battery to timing belt, but it’s
been hard to narrow it down. Just trying to get an
idea of what the problem is and how much it could
cost to fix before I get it towed to the shop.
