Mazda Mpv will not shift out of park

Asked by Guru6GL4Q Apr 10, 2020 at 07:36 PM about the 2001 Mazda MPV LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 Mazda MPV that will not shift out of park.  I have checked all of the fuses, brake lights and dash lights. They all work fine. The park and neutral lights are lit but dim. I pushed the white button on top of the steering column but it does not do anything. I can manually move the shifting linkage (after I disconnected it) to put it in gear. It runs just fine when put in gear manually like this.

It's likely just a defective brake-shift solenoid. Have it checked and replaced.
