Question type: General

Has anyone signed up or considered joining the potential class action lawsuit
regarding the defective infotainment systems in the 2018 Outbacks? I am
waiting for my second replacement to come in.

I am considering joining the class action, but am going to allow Subaru an opportunity to fix the issue first. My infotainment system went totally dark Dec 1 2018 on my 2018 Outback with 12000 miles. The dealer told me to expect to wait a month for a new unit. I called Subaru directly and they assured me they would expedite the shipment. I called them on Tuesday; they are to call me today (Friday) to update me on the part shipment status. I also will want a warranty on that part for as long as I own the vehicle. If they are unable to 1) replace the unit quickly, and 2) offer me a warranty on the unit during my ownership, I will either join the class action or retain my own attorney to insure Subaru fairly addresses this issue.

This isntge second time the first time they said it was the battery but did an update on the radio. I'm ready to join a class action tell me where to sign up.

My Infotainment system when black the end of November, I have called the dealership twice and both times was told 1 -2 weeks, its been a month and I'm still waiting. I again I want a warranty on the replacement part for as long as I own the vehicle, and if I are unable to replace the unit VERY soon, and offer me a warranty on the unit I will also join the class action .

I hope you folks are pestering Subaru Of America (SOA) with these problems and complaints. Dealers will blow you off if they can. They are already busy replacing engines due to oil consumption ;(

Been waiting 5 weeks now when I was told it would be 2 weeks. My dealership was great and very honest that they have 16 Outback customers waiting on replacements and they are as frustrated as I am. They said they have never seen anything like it but Subaru is lying to them about shipping too. I want not only a lifetime warranty on the thing but I expect some compensation also for the fact that I can't listen to the Sirius Radio I paid for, access the camera safety features, Carplay, Navigation or make or accept a phone call in my car. I spend at least two to three hours a day driving my car for business and I paid for those features for a reason. If Subaru doesn't make this more than right, they can be looking out for a lawsuit from me.

Have the same problem; still waiting for an answer and it's been 3 weeks with no arrival date. ****Call Subaru Corporate and demand a rental car due to unsafe driving! Document every contact that you have with the dealership. Save all emails.

Hello all, I would first check out the vehicle's history report on this recall. It will give you some of the information you need to address your issues. Also, refer to your owners manual for the manufacturers contact information to send a letter for your demands, it should be towards the back. They must respond. The dealerships can only do so much since this is a makers issue. Hope this helps and good luck to all.

Are you referencing a specific potential class action lawsuit? The only one I'm seeing in a search is with the Chimicles & Tikellis LLP firm.

Class action lawsuits sound scary but for the average person all it means is the lawyers get all the money and you get a coupon for $100 off on a new Subaru.

I have a 2018 subaru outback and my infotainment system went black about a month ago...still waiting for the replacement. I have only had the car since may. Im requiring that they pay for a rental car.

I've signed up with the lawsuit and hope they considered the entire inconvenience this causes to us customers, lack of Sirius radio, safety features on the car, etc. I've not yet been contacted by the attorneys yet..not sure what their plans are? I do know through my Subaru service rep, that Subaru of America is aware of this issue And the product is a third party contractor...I would hope the attorneys get the particulars on the contract. I work with contracts to know that the consumer is not holding third party contracts responsible, but will hold Subaru responsible and should have a comp plan appropriate for the consumer...this is not right.

GPS went dead at least 5 times. The radio came on full volume and I had to pull the fuse. A small piece of gravel shattered the entire windshield. The dealer told me that the best way to get the forward collision system to work was to make sure that the cruise control was on, but no speed was set. I have a new flip phone but the replacement radio that was installed, with blue tooth, will not work. The original system, that was replaced, did work with the phone. It was recommended that I simply stop using the bluetooth. All this for $32,000.00. What a joke. I feel sorry for the dealership. They were honest, and one of the best dealership that I have dealt with in the last 60 years.

My 2018 Outback Touring head unit just went completely black...only 12000 miles on it. apparently there is now a recall out from Subaru on this. Dealership says they will try a software update first and if does not work they will replace the unit. Same time my front windshield developed a mysterious crack! Not hit by any rocks just appeared from edge of windshield and is now 14 inches long. Again I have read this is a common occurrence? More than a little concerned...will see how the service works out!

My 2018 Outback Touring is now at the dealership for the SECOND time to get unit replaced. Was told it could be 3 weeks until they receive the new part. I just don't understand why they keep selling these cars when they know about this problem. Very frustrating. Wondering how many times this will continue to happen.

Got my 3.6r back on Monday after 1 week in the shop. (2nd replacement in under 1year) Either Subaru (Samsung/Hartman) is shipping the radios faster or I was flagged as a potential “problem customer” by my dealership. (I insisted on a loaner while my head unit was inoperable.) So far, the radio OS seems much more stable. Quick startup and absolutely no Apple CarPlay issues. Fingers crossed.

I am really disappointed to see all of these 2018 Outback Owners having these problems. My head unit went black today. I only have about 5k miles on it. I purchased the Subaru for its reliability and safety record but this is serious. Before the system went black I would get messages every once in a while that the safety features were turned off. THAT gave me a great feeling. Subaru needs to do better.

Document everything and sue them. If there isn't a class action, then go for it independently, most lawyers would do it for very little or no upfront fees. Subaru needs to feel the pain on these issues.

At the dealership for another (this one, self-inflicted) issue I overheard an unctuous service writer on the phone with someone who's radio had gone dead: "... we've had a few go out. ... You'll be without your backup camera for a while... Oh, I never believe anything I read on the internet." The caller had obviously Googled and found the mountain of complaints on various forums. ;-)

my 2018 crosstrek is on it's THIRD RADIO ALREADY--- PLUS inbetween these radio replacements, I have VISITED the dealer to get UPDATES which are a WASTE OF TIME ( 10 times ) -TOLD the dealer they should give me my money back and subaru could KEEP the dam thing--OF course the dealer is stuck in the middle--- dealer has to listen to customer complaints when it' s actually the JOKERS higher up at subaru that should be getting all the flak --OF COURSE THEY ARE ALL HIDING

Any news about this I own a 2018 outback and had to replace the system twice and I am willing to join the lawsuit and bring me and a attorney across the country to where even the court is to sue Subaru I have photos and receipts proving I had issues

I'm about ready to call those attorneys as well. I have a 2015 Outback and it has the exact same problems with the Infotainment system, so the problems started before 2018. That's after I had to replace the dinky battery it came with AFTER TWO YEARS because I couldn't do so much as leave the hatch open for 2 minutes to unload groceries without having to jump the car. It has a bad head pipe that needs replacing too, and the car's only 4 years old. They're blaming everything on "wear and tear" due to the mileage. I live on a dirt road, not a not-road, and if Subaru's parts can't handle a dirt road after 4 years they need to stop the false advertising 'cause this is not a rugged vehicle. This is the first and absolute last time I will ever purchase a Subaru.

I have a 2016 outback my windshield popped & cracked also!!! I went to replace it and they told me about all this!!! Like most of you it is cracked like no other windshield I have seen!! I went to the dealership.......they say I have no recalls for this issue. It is true that the lawyers get most of the money.....to bad when we all pay for this issue.

instead of large class action lawsuits,, we should be suing all the individual salespeople and individual dealerships -- HURT THE LITTLE GUYS AND THEN MAYBE WE WILL GET RESULTS !!!! THEY CONTINUE SELLING THESE VEHICLES,, ( WHILE KNOWING ABOUT THESE DEFECTIVE RADIOS THEY CANNOT FIX) - THAT MUST BE FRAUD or SOMETHING ??

Does anyone have the website to sign up for the class action suit?? I have serious issues my my 18 outback and I can’t find the damn letter they sent me.
