2002 Lincoln Continental "lurches" at stop lights.

Asked by Guru9TJY6 Jun 17, 2017 at 02:15 PM about the 2002 Lincoln Continental FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just bought a 2002 Lincoln Continental in good shape. Took it on a test drive,
and it ran well.  I had a 45 minute drive home on surface streets.  After 1/2
hour, it acted funny like it was lurching and shifting gears when stopped at a
couple of the intersections.  Isn't doing it now, but I am worried it will act up at
a bad time....

have a look at the transmission fluid level after the car is warmed up. Hopefully it's just low on fluid.

I checked it and it looks like too much fluid... way over the hash lines on the dip stick.

Changed the fluid, and still has the issue, though the fluid definitely needed to be changed. The transmission seems fine otherwise.
