VW Atlas

Asked by franetic1 Jan 07, 2018 at 05:41 PM about the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas SEL

Question type: General

I  test drove an Atlas. I liked it, except for a
hesitation when accelerating from a stop. The
salesman said it's because the car starts off in 2nd
gear??? I must shift manually to use first. Is this
true?

Just pass on the VW- I don't trust the company anymore, and I never DID trust car salesmen- isn't that hesitation telling you to move on? The world is full of cars-

The Atlas has the start/stop system turned on as default. The hesitation you are feeling probably is when the engine restarts from a stop. The start/stop system can be turned off, however. I don't know why they set it up that way: I turn off the start/stop system as soon as I get into the car. But you have to do it every time.
