The car stalles randomly

Asked by Scramler Oct 20, 2020 at 07:57 PM about the 1995 Opel Corsa B

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an Opel Corsa B from 1995 and this
happens for a while already. A lot of times
is hard to start it up, I have to rotate the
key a few times to let the fuel pump to
build in some pressure, and even then it
doesn't start from the first try , when it
starts it has a chance of stalling again.
While driving it also stalls sometimes, but
after it warmed up it seems that it stalls
less if I don't go over 2000 rev/min, but
even then it has this problem while
climbing a hill. It does not stop abruptly, if I
let the left it in the gear it sometimes
starts again while driving, the steering
wheel and the brakes work during that
time and not all the lights on the dash
board are on. I've changed the fuel filter
and checked the spark plugs, I am out of
clue what to do next, please help

I would get a multi tester and check the power and ground at the fuel pump . If you're lucky there's an access panel under the back seat or in the trunk , A fuel pump will usually up and die but who knows . There may also be a fuel pump relay that could have corrosion at the contacts . The car's pretty old you should think about the money you plan on putting into it ..

The fuel pump sometimes stops after I start up the car, but sometimes I can hear it working continuously while driving, I will do the tests you told me and come with a feedback. Thank you in advance. And could you please tell me what is the normal rev/min that the car must have while it stays in neutral, it shows me 700 (sometimes a bit lower) rev/min, and I don't seem to find anywhere the information about how much should it be.
