Asked by didi Nov 27, 2009 at 10:07 AM about the 1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi Jeepers,
My name is didi from Bali - Indonesia (tropical area), I am driving a 1994 Cherokee sport 4 doors with 4.0 L. My mechanic change the fan system from normal (using the original fan with angine) to an electric fan of BMW which would be automatic starting to blow wind when it hot but it is not working, engine keep on 100 degrees (celcius) probably more than that. If I am using the normal fan would be trouble in traffic, car will runs 100 degress (celcius) cuold you give me suggestion to keep my jeep runs cool? thanks

Put in a lower temperature thermostat and fix the fan relay switch or temperature sending unit. A switch could be wired to the fan but this would require you to switch it on and off manually.

100 degrees celcius is 212 degrees farenheight. XJ's normally run at 210 so I don't see a problem with it being at that temperature. With that being said you have a few options. 1. New High flow water pump. Found here: http://www.hesco.us/shop.asp?action=details&inventoryID=42918&catId=7967 That pump linked will fit your XJ. 2. New High flow thermostat housing. Found here: http://www.hesco.us/shop.asp?action=details&inventoryID=43007&catId=7967 That one linked will also fit your XJ. 3.New lower temperature thermostat. XJ's come with a 195 thermostat. If you go with anything lower than a 180 thermostat you risk running the engine to cool causing it to wear faster. Here is a 180 thermostat that will fit your XJ: http://www.hesco.us/shop.asp?action=details&inventoryID=43013&catId= 4. The cheapest option would be change your radiator fluid. If it hasn't been changed in a while or looks very dirty it will make a difference. If it looks like it should, is clean and not the color of mud you probably won't see a difference by dong this. Hope that helps
