99 Grand Jeep Cherokee

My Jeep Grand Cherokee wouldn’t start one day
after I ran to Walmart. I went in, everything was
fine, come back out, gas gauge reads no gas, I
know it has a 1/2 tank if not over. Cannot hear the
fuel pump when turned on. What are the possible
causes for the fuel gauge reading no fuel and it not
turning over?
