2002 Jeep Liberty Overheating

Asked by GuruV9T8W Jul 31, 2018 at 09:10 PM about the 2002 Jeep Liberty Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 Jeep liberty that runs fine on highways and through town but
when I drive over mountains she overheats pretty quickly. I dont push her very
hard over the mountains and she still over heats. Looking for possible
problems or if that is common.

According to driversed.com, PROBLEMS AT HIGH ALTITUDES: "*Thin mountain air can affect your car's engine and diminish your acceleration and climbing power *The potential for overheating is greater *The potential for vapor locks is greater" For more information, see: Mikemurphy@kia.com HOW DOES HUMIDITY AFFECT CAR-PERFORMANCE? (12/21/16) and the comments and/or: Knowhow.napaonline.com, Blare Lampe DOES ENGINE PERFORMANCE DEPEND ON CLIMATE AND ALTITUDE? (4/27/17) ...for some interesting information. It appears that topography may explain why your Jeep is more vulnerable to overheating when driving through the mountains. This should provide insight into why Cherokee ALTITUDE, Grand Cherokee ALTITUDE, and Grand Cherokee HIGH ALTITUDE models are now available.
