My catalytic converter has been cut is there a specific way to tape it?

If it can be repaired (which I doubt), welding would be the best way to fix a cut. Have a muffler shop look at it.

Tape it? Masking tape? Duct tape? Muffler tape? Tape Worm? Tape recorder? Hmm, have it welded.
