I have cash to buy a newer vehicle

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I am curious what you think my negotiation power at a dealership is if I tell
them I have cash no trade in just upfront cash and how should I use that to
negotiate. Some of the dealers in the area have what they call best price in
other words that's the price you pay I love to negotiate so should I stay away
from those dealers or should I wave the cash under there nose and see if
they will negotiate. any thoughts on how I should use this and does it give
me an advantage over financing through the dealership.

Today there is NO advantage to paying for a vehicle in cash. In some instances you will be paying more, because the dealership gets kickbacks from the banks they use for when buyers finance. The only time cash works is on a private sale.

Thanks for your response. I do prefer to work with private parties but not much out there for sale in my area for what I am looking for and the ones that were on there were higher than the dealers price so I may just kick back and wait till the right deal comes up with a private party. I know dealers get kick backs on financing from banks my sister just bought a car and the she had the cash to buy it and they convinced her to finance it for three months and pay it off so they got the credit. I told her if a dealer asked me to do that I would be walking she paid like over 400.00 in interest for those three months crazy. Like I said I like to negotiate and I will walk if I feel there is something fishy and in that case that is fishy. Thanks again
