What to use to tow my 1650 pound Tab trailer

Asked by C4r01in3 Nov 28, 2018 at 08:26 PM about the 2017 Subaru Outback 2.5i AWD

Question type: General

I'm currently using a 2005 Saturn Vue V6 FWD to tow my Tab camper. I have
no problems other than my Transmission will over heat if I don't watch my
speed. I tow at 55 to 60 miles per hour, anywhere from 4 to 6 hours of driving. I
was thinking of purchasing a Subaru Outback but I'm not sure after reading
some of the comments. What vehicle should I consider that will tow with
power and get the best gas mileage?

I would buy a car that does not have a CVT for one thing which rules out Subaru. I would also add an aftermarket transmission cooler and change the transmission fluid more often. Check the towing specs and get a car that is over rated for the towing you plan to do. In other words get a car that is rated to tow a lot more than the weight of your current trailer.
