Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1994 chevy c1500 has been thru 8 starters in 6
months. Ive checked the flywheel, ground, positive,
solenoid, and shims. Nothing is working. I keep getting the
same starter since it has a lifetime warrenty with napa
auto. They've told me its the right one but im starting to
believe im being lied to.

What engine do you have? I work for Napa. I'll look it up tomorrow and give you the part number I come up with. Jim

I have a family member that thinks the starter may be for a 305 and not a 350

Ok, I'll look it up for you and give you the part number I come up with. Let's see if it matches what you have been getting from your Napa. Please don't post your part number until after I post mine. That will tell us if you have the right one or not. Jim

I'm not looking at the part number on your receipt until tomorrow, lol. Jim

Ok, here's what I come up with. There was a mid year production change, gotta love those. But for early model year it's part number 246 5022. Late model year is 246 5110. You are correct, the starter you have is wrong! The starter you have fits a 1996 thru 1997 Chevy V8 350! Not a 94 model! Hope that helps! Jim

When you take the starter back they can defect it against the correct one even though it's a different part number. Tell them to defect it as "boxed wrong" and they'll get their credit. One of the things I do at my store is process defect and core returns. So I know how this stuff works! To determine if you have an early or late 94 look at the sticker on the driver's side door. Generally speaking if the production date is 8/93 thru 2/94 it's an early model. But 3/94 thru 7/94 is a late model. Hope that helps! Jim

Yes sir it helps. But i bought the original in mannford and they revuse to make it right. I either need a refund or someone needs to come clean about lying to me about parts.

I spent so much money for this mistake to be happening 6 months after the original was broken and very disrespectful that no one at napa felt the need to correct this mistake.

Call 1 800 LET NAPA and file a complaint. I can assure you that the area manager will get involved and make it right with you. Napa really does stand behind their customers. I've been at my store for 15 years and I've seen it happen. Napa takes this kind of thing very seriously! Personally I'm very sorry about you having to go through this nonsense!! Please call the number. They'll make it right for you!! Hope that helps!! Jim

Doesn't work at all? No cranking? Did you check your production date? I looked it up myself. The 246 5022 is for the early 94 and 246 5110 is for the late 94. I omitted the dash in the part number here to not trigger the spam blocker on the forum, BTW. What's the eighth character of your VIN? Jim

154,885

Ok, that's a V8 5.7L 350 TBI engine. Just wanted to make sure. Is it not cranking at all? Jim

Nope it wont crank tick wirl nothing at all ive been trying to get it to do something but it wont.

Ok, remove the starter and connect the positive battery cable to the bolt on the starter solenoid like you would if it were in the vehicle. Now connect the negative side of the battery to the body of the starter. If it makes it easier you can use jumper cables for this. It should spin. If not, it's defective! Hope that helps! Jim

It doesnt spin at all. And i drove 2 hrs to go get pick it up. Its the 9th starter so far. And ill have to drive another 2 hrs to take it back. And another 2 hrs to take the new one home. Do u guys understand how much money im having to spend on ur mistake? Im irritated and its really getting anoying. I just want the the a freaking starter that will start my god dam truck. Plz someone somewhere plz help me....

I feel your pain! Many years ago I had a 66 Cadillac. It was my only transportation. For me it was Pep Boys starters. I went through 6 in 3 months before I finally got a good one! Call the store before driving all that way. Make sure they have another one in stock! Explain what's going on. I'm so sorry about all this! If you were closer I'd say come to the store where I work. Know that I want you back on the road too!! Jim
