Car making a screaming or screeching noise

Asked by T.J. Jan 31, 2019 at 02:57 PM about the 2009 Mazda MAZDA6 GS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

About a 3 or 4 days before the car really showed
problems of something wrong it was making a
screeching noise as if it needed a belt
replacement. So on the 4th day it died while driving
and giving a rubber like smell to it , was able to turn
it back on but the noise got louder.  Figured it was
the belt or alternator so replaced both and turned it
back on and it's still making the loud noise. Gives
off a little smoke by the side next to the belt.

Look for an idler wheel or engine accessory that is seized up and not turning.
