Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2005 Mazda Tribute makes a whining sound while accelerating. the more you
increase speed, the louder it becomes, on the highway, for instance.. While
coasting at steady speed, it's barely noticeable. if noticeable at all.

It's AWD, I can't hear the noise while idling. most prevalent when accelerating after red light, and on the highway. When I hear the transmission shift the noise diminishes with each gear shift until reaching cruising speed, then I can't hear it again until accelerating again.

Wen I bought it, I was told it was AWD. How would I know if it's AWD or Front wheel drive?
