Auto trans stuck in one gear and then wont restart

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Recently the automatic transmisson wouldn't shift properly. I had to stop the car, turn engine off and then re-crank the car to get the transmission to function properly. It has occurred much more frequently and now the car won't start at all. I'm thinking that the transmission is the reason for the car not starting...maybe the shifter is not telling the computer that the car is in park.

It turns out that the issue was the floor shifter. Bought a used shifter from ebay. Checked out some YouTube videos on how to change the shifter out. New (used) shifter solved the problem. Actually bought a new bracket that attaches to the leather around the shift knob and the base plate of the center console. Turned out great.
