Battery 2012 Kia Optima

The dashboard started flickering in my car and
then the car would not start. I had AAA come out
to start the vehicle. But I am being told that only
dealerships carry the batteries for this car. Would
the dashboard lights flickering be caused by the
regular car battery or would it be caused by the
electric battery? Where can you purchase the
batteries for this vehicle?

Dealerships LIE, (at least some do) to get your money. Interstate, Duralast and others have H6 (Group Size 48) 12 volt batteries available for much less than the $400 to 500 the dealership demands to replace your battery. Make sure to get one that is vented and to plug in the vent tube to the hole in the top part of the battery when replacing. This keeps very flammable and sometimes explosive hydrogen gas from building up in your trunk.

Update: The battery number should be H6R. The R is for reversed location of the positive and negative battery poles. Thanks Hyundai and Kia for making this battery harder to find. At least most auto parts places can order them in if they don't have them on the shelf. Costco may have them as well.
