It spits and sputters if you have to stop at a stop sign and you take off it spits and sputters

When you go down the road it's spits and sputters
little bit but when you stop at a stop sign are red
light and you try to take off sounds like it's time to
run out of gas but it's not

Please tell me why it spits and sputters when you stop at a stop sign or red light you try to take off again it spits and sputters real bad
