2005 Honda Accord - Driver side door open indicator and passenger side lamp light up while driving

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

As I drive my 2005 Honda Accord Ex, there will be times when the car hits a bump,
while making a right turn, or just bumping my knee against the door, that the Open
Door indicator on the dashboard will light up.  Also, the passenger side head lamp (not
where the visor is, but above the review mirror) flicks on.  It will sometimes stay on for
4-5 seconds or less.  It started out infrequently.  Over the course of about 3 weeks, it
occurs on a regular basis.

Sounds like you have a bad door switch or bad connection at the door switch.

Yes. That is the one. That would be my first device to troubleshoot.

Awesome. I'm taking my car in to be serviced soon for a variety of other reasons. Is this something worth doing on my own (i.e. significant financial savings) or should I just add it to the list of fixes for the mechanic?

This switch would literally take you under 5 minutes to change out. It looks like there is one screw that mounts it. Remove the plug off the existing (bad) switch. Reverse procedure to install the new one.

Another solution would be to find where your post on the door hits the car frame - could use lipstick or ketchup = lotion whatever you have close by - when you see the spot that it hits you can mark it more permanently with felt marker or paint - ok even fingernail polish - then start with a penny and move up in the coin width or you could use other material - place it in that spot and cover with duct tape securely once you know for sure the size you need - I have a penny or maybe two and have to replace the duct tape from time to time but it allows the door post to meet and indicate the door is closed and it will then lock
