Electrical Problem, who's had it happen?

Asked by Biggrich Jun 15, 2021 at 10:14 PM about the 2016 Nissan Maxima SR

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok so wife was driving home, car did not die but would not
accelerate. She got it home and told me. When I got home
the car started right up and no codes.  I told her to keep
driving it. So the very next week she was driving and it did
the same thing. But this time it would not start without a
jump. I put a new battery in it and drove it for a month or
more until one night the battery lite came on. So I checked
it out again and found that the altenator was only putting
out 11.4 volts.  Got a reman altenator and replaced it and
started the car. It still not charging the battery and is only
charging at 8.2. The altenator was tested when I bought it
and was putting out 14.4v.  Also since putting a new
altenator in it after starting it the car will not go into gear
and it says it doesn't recognize the key. Anyone had any
problems like this and what was the fix.  Being to think I
may have to eat this and buy a new car.
