Fuel economy on 6.2 gas F250
I am looking for a truck to tow a travel trailer or possibly a 5th wheel. Most people seem to have diesel. How does the 6.2 gas compare for mpg? I have heard that the diesels have to have the cab pulled off the frame for head work or rear of engine work. Does the gas 6.2 engine also require pulling the cab?
Never heard of pulling the cab off to do engine work. 6.2 will suck down gas like crazy. Well-tuned diesel will get impressive MPGs. Downside is diesel trucks are more expensive and used ones tend to have a lot of miles on them, ones that don't have a million miles on them are going to be pricey.
Looking at how far the engine goes back in a 2016 with a 6.2 gas it sure isn't like my old one. So, you would need to lift the cab off to do head gaskets on a gas engine too right? Looks worse than a van as far as access goes. This has got to add a lot of money to repair costs for labor just to get at the rear of the engine. I really hate this. I really liked this truck. My wife even liked driving it. I can only guess it was built this way since there are a lot of crew cabs now so maybe they wanted to keep the front shorter since the cabs are so big now. Do you know of any slightly older years without the engine placed this far back?. Thanks
I love mine. I get 11 in town and I get 16 on interstate. At 55 mph. Yeap I’m getting passed. But I know I got the speed and power if I want it. In Dallas traffic I see an opening I can punch it and it will pass everyone pulling a load. Wouldn’t trade it.
It is true that you have to pull the cab for major engine work on the diesels. My next truck will be a Super Duty with the 6.2 which seems to have all the power most people need.
I think it was Motor Trend that did a road test of a new F250 4x4 6.2 gas and they got 0-60 in 6.7 seconds and 15mpg in heavy foot test driving.

I just bought the 2012 with the 6.2, I have had the 6.7 diesel and with all the expenses of maintaining the diesel vs the gas, I have know complaints. Plenty of power and piece of mind knowing that I don't need to spend 14k on injectors and repairs like my buddy had to.
I have a F250 with the 6.2 liter v8 and I love it I get 17.8 miles to the gallon on the highway at 70 miles per hour with the cruise on and 15 .9 without the cruise 14.2 around town best truck I have ever owned
My 2015 F250 with the 6.2 19000 pampered miles just took a dump. Ford is replacing two cylinder heads and the block... I guess I got the one in a 1000 manufacturer defects.
What exactly failed?
I was thinking of buying a 6.2 vs 6.7 or a older 7.3! I can’t find a 7.3 with less than 300.000 miles on it is hard to find’ I believe ford put out a good engine that 7.3. I got 2 trucks my 93 ranger 4x4 I changed the oil every 4 months and I got 370.000 miles on it. 4.0 engine, when it quits I will be putting a 302 in it. Got a 6” lift on it with 35, ford did a special on that truck, they put all 4x4 parts from f150, chassis 373 gears up frt and rear Trany went out on me and that was the hardest piece to find, I had to go out of state, so I think it come down to the 6.2 or 7.3. The 6.0 is a disaster unless you spend a small fortune to Bullet Proof it. I find quite a few low mile 7.3 trucks but people want 30 grand for them!
I drive a 6.2 gas and am pleased with the performance. The mileage could use some improvement when pulling a load. I pull a 10k lb 35 foot trailer and get 6.08-9.3 miles per gal depending on the wind direction. Average combined mpg around 14. For me I drive more empty miles than loaded so Gas is great for me.
2019 f250 6.2- 14mpg. in town and 17 on road unloaded..Highway speed 68 mph. Can't complain.
2015 F250 4x4 Crew cab with 6.2L gas- I average 12 mpg combined in winter and 14 mpg combined in summer. Pulling 10,000 lb camper in the summer around 7-8 mpg.
I had a 350 diesel that got 17 around town. Now I have a 250 gas that gets 14 around town. Get a dielel for cheaper full, better mileage, and better towing

Just bought the 2019 f250 xlt and just put 3000 km on it. I am looking to see if I can trade it in! The shocks SUCK! You feel every bump, patch line, piece of gravel on the pavement! I get 420 km per tank! My girlfriends dodge gets 860! Would not recommend this truck.
You have to compare miles per gallon, not miles per tank.

I can do the conversion but "tank" is not a recognized volume measurement. If you get 2.3 liters per km your tank would have to be 974 liters (257 gallons) to go 420km. Can you do math?
In case you can't do the math this works out to 1 mpg. At the rate you would only be getting 20 or 30 miles from a "tank".
What is all this miles per km , and liters, holy cow— this is the United States of America,,, not U K,,,my f 250 gets anywhere from 10 to 17 MPG,,, it all depends on how you drive and what you do with your truck. My friend also owns a Dodge Ram with the bigger he I engine ,, both are 3/4 ton trucks,, mine has a 6 ft bed, his has an 8 ft bed,,, both are so close , it all comes down to options and personal preference on YOUR pick of Ford Chevy Dodge and even Toyota and Nissan,, Back to it feels every bump in the road—- it ain’t no Cadillac ,, it’s a 3/4 ton truck, a monster on wheels, not a super ride,,,c-mon,,,,get real.
I know for a fact that when the high pressure fuel system goes out that you have to take the cab off the truck to get to it, that’s why I chose to replace mine with a gasser. After the truck was taken apart and put back together it squeaked and rattled like I had totaled it and had repaired at a cheap body shop. Failure occurred at 30k. I have seen this in three different trucks in my area. Oh, don’t forget about doing without your truck for two months.
there is no reason for cab removal for a high pressure fuel system overhaul on a 6.7 i am a ford diesel tech with 25+ years experience and unless techs find contamination in fuel system ford covers repairs under warranty repairs can easily done in couple days
I'm going 6.2....want to repair your 6.7 nightmare for 15k if if the c4 fails...and the stress.. ya it doesn't have the power or the mileage of a 6.7 but I can probably replace a 6.2 for the cost of a head gasket going out on a 6.7 and Ford superdutys are Trucks not cars so they SHOULD RIDE ROUGH.. go drink ur chi tea .
I bought the 6.2 and I like it. However, it gets 10 or 11 loaded or empty. I may need to add a tank in the bed for long trips. It wasn’t $65k for a diesel. It is what it is. Could have had more power pulling a trailer up two lane roads in Colorado but it’s what I could afford buying a trailer too.
To even out with MPG with a diesel, you would have to drive close to 250,000 miles. Where I live, diesel is close to $0.70 per gallon more expensive. The extra 2-3 MPG is not worth it to me.
I have a 6.2 gas crew cab. I Just towed a 10,000 pound trailer from CO to TX and got 6.5 mpg on average. Unloaded I'm getting 11-12 on average. If towing anything over 7,000 pounds I'd highly suggest a diesel, unless you live at very low elevation. The 6.2 gas engine is outclassed by a heavy trailer and it will fight hard to tow a heavy load but it really does not perform anywhere close to a diesel. At 2,000 feet of elevation at 68 mph my truck was constantly seeing revs of 4k plus and it actually ended up going into some sort of limp mode 3 times on me. Truck was revving like crazy and was losing power. May just be a problem with my truck, but that was my experience.
Bought a new 2012 Motor Home in 2012 with a Cummins diesel....what a disaster with this DEF crap. In 2018 With 35000 miles on it had to spend a week & $8500 for repairs in Arizona. That was the third time the check engine light came on. At the repair facility they were towing in 2-3 big rigs a night with DEF problems. Sold the rig and want nothing to do with this DEF crap!!! Just one mans opinion.
