My '16 Ford Explorer has an AC compressor that won't start.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My '16 Ford Explorer has an AC compressor that won't start. The fuse and relay are fine, and the refrigerant is not low. The AC works fine if you jump the relay. What could be causing this?

The car also had a problem with overheating. I jammed a water bottle in the radiator shutters to hold them open, and it fixed the issue. I don't know if this is related to the AC issue.

I don't understand your term "radiator shutters". Can you describe this for me? As for your AC unit, if it works when the relay is jumped, I would replace the relay and see what that does.

Thanks. The radiator has a shutter array on it to close the air off and improve mileage. I tried putting a good relay in the socket, and the clutch did not engage.

To repeat what I already said, the relay and fuse are fine. The refrigerant level is fine. The clutch and compressor work.

Still no answers? I have checked the pressure switch, and it's fine. There is no "on" signal going to the clutch relay.
