Subaru makes sure the trouble codes get your attention. Replace the cap and see what happens.

You may have to restart the car 4 times to clear the old CEL event. If that fails, try disconnecting the battery overnight. If still no progress get a cheap scanner and erase the CEL yourself. Easy peasy.

Did this correct your problem. I just had the same thing occur on my wifes 2015 Forester XT?

You disconnect the negative terminal on the battery, turn the key on three times, reconnect the battery and the warning lights will be reset. This eliminates the code so it can’t be read later on but it fixes the problem with lights flashing. This is a problem with the gas tank sensor - I’ve replaced my fuel cap - and it’s mostly annoying and the Subaru dealer likes to ignore the problem instead of providing a fix.

@GuruBG5YM - Thanks for the tip on how to reset your warning lights. Worked as advertised.

similar experience, engine 'seized up' while on freeway with cruise on, was able to pull it over, idling rough, warning lights included the emission control, hill descent, flashing cruise control. check engine light was solid, not blinking, so kept driving it. after 4th stop/start - getting gas, tightening the gas cap, all the warning lights went away.
