Left rear brake light has no power

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought this truck and now the drivers brake light stop working. I have
checked the bulbs and even jumped into the circuit with a jumper. They work
off of the right brake light power. But because the brake lights use the same
wire as the turn signals this is not a fix. I've searched everywhere for a
schematic but no luck. Any ideas?

Fixed it. Hopefully I can help someone else. I was alone so I pulled the rear light to face me while standing at the door. But anyhoo. If you come across this issue. Put your foot on the brake and wiggle the turn signal / multi-function swirch. If the brake light comes on during wiggling the multi-function switch is bad. Not what I wanted to hear. But it was the problem. Who the heck designed the system I can't say. But theres an answer to unfortunately a fairly common issue with older Jimmys' and probably a few other older GMs. Hopefully this will help someone else.

I had a few beers in celebration after tearing apart and putting my entire truck back together, so sorry for the misspellings above. :)

Hey, Same symptoms, same problem! How did you ever come across that? Would you mind telling me about the repair? Thanks a million, John

Searching different tech sites I finally got the idea from one of them. The repair isn’t so bad. If you are mechanically inclined. There’s a screw at the top of the switch once your in the column that’s a bitch but with time it comes out. Just be careful the new switch is centered when reinstalling. Mine wasn’t but I learned to live with it not turning off automatically when making a left. 4/10 in difficulty.
