Check for headlamp trouble codes. The codes I saw were manufacturer specific codes. To check codes yourself, at the least, you need a code reader that will work with your vehicle and read manufacturer specific codes. Hopefully your local autostore will have one? At your headlamp assembly, the black wire is ground, if you think that wire has a problem, just use a redundant ground wire to chassis, to test, I don't believe that is your problem. Below is one of trouble code explanations for head lamp switch. good luck

My 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport has a loose headlight switch. My lights can go off but I just tap the actual headlight on/off switch.
