run out of gas

I ran out of gas last night and the van was sputtering, after i put gas in it still
was sputtering. what could it be. i filled up thinking it would be fine, but still is
doing that

Have the fuel pressure tested, running it out of fuel could have ruined the fuel pump, the pump uses the fuel as a coolant so when you run it with less than 1/4 tank you expose the fuel pump and it starts to run hotter than normal.
