I work on p71 all day 1998 to 2012 you can change the whole rear end housing from rear car to car I have a 2011 and I put an 2001

wont the tires stick out too far as the changed the spacing?

I have a 1998 crown Vic and just picked up a rear end from a 2009 P71 and the shock mounts are in a completely different location. I think the shock mounts changed on 03?. I have another rear end form a 1999 Town Car which is the same. I was really hoping to use the rear end from the 09 P71 as it has a 3.55 Track lock in it ant the 31 spline axles.

1998-2002 interchange 2003-2011 interchange, end of story

guru YYGNL the 1998-2002 is a narrower axle housing and shock mounts etc are different locations on 2003-2011 axles

What is the 8.8 rear axle width of a 1999 cv p71
