Head Gasket Replacement

Hi Guys.
My 2006/2007 Subaru WRX had brown sludge in
the coolant. I recently brought the car and never
checked. Iv done the flush and put 50/50
coolant/distilled water. I'm not loosing coolant but I
took it for a block test to check if my gasket was
blown. Anyways it is blown. Just wanted to know if
should upgrade my gasket to a stronger
one(cosworth gasket?)? And while the engine is
open should I replace my pistons with forged
pistons so that I never run into the ring land failure
problem? My car is completely stock . Just want to
make my WRX last as long as possible and be as
reliable as it can be. The only mod I'm looking at
doing is replacing the stock down pipe with a
Invidia down pipe? Any suggestions???

Well the maintenance you are describing you are thinking about, you might as well pull the engine and rebuild it with top notch components. Which wouldn't be a bad idea, depending on the mileage, replacing the head gasket, you need the head reconditioned to do it right, checked for cracks, resurfaced, valves. The problem is more than likely you would turn it into a oil burner. Replacing the head gasket the right way raises the cylinder compression, and if the rings, pistons, cylinder walls are worn, it will pull the oil up past the rings and thus feeding it oil all the time, and not passing emissions test. It is a lot easier to put a long block in.
