Transmission problems

My 2003 Ford ranger edge 2wd 3.0
automatic transmission will take reverse but
will slightly jerk like it's try to take first
second and third but want engaged

Best get it to a transmission shop for proper diagnosis.
I have dropped the pan and filter and fluid and the flood was still blood redish had a slight burnt smell to it but not bad and there wasn't no metal in it and the stock filter wasn't to bad so I got a new filter and new fluid and the auto parts employee said that his did the same thing he changed it all and put a qrt of the brand name fluid that stops leaks slipping and repairs bands.. so I'm gonna try these and go from the I'm pretty mechanically inclined to be only 24 rebuilt multiple engines and things and a few 727 Dodge transmission s but not one off these. One other question does anyone no which transmission is in the truck the 55re or something like that I'm newly to Ford's sorry in advance to everyone trying to learn thanks for the help to all.....
