I am getting old and have become attached to being able to open the car
without having to locate the keyhole in the dark and finding my car at night
with the push of a key fob button.
Also, I am thinking of trading in this car but fear I will need to spend a bunch to
have the car fixed before I can sell it.

first of all check the battery in the fob. next I would advise you sell the automobile with the malfunctioning doors and get a more reliable american automobile alternatively take your automobile to your local shop and get a qualified technician to diagnose your malfunctioning doors
Non American car is more reliable than Honda or Toyota.
