Hybird Battery only charges to 6 miles.

Asked by lsa1218 Dec 25, 2018 at 08:19 AM about the 2013 Ford Fusion Energi Titanium

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Energi battery when new charged between 21-24 miles. It now usually
charges from 6 to 8 miles.
Ford will not replace battery under Hybird warranty. Ford states vehicle is
operating within their standards???????65000 miles currently.  Should
battery be covered under 8 yr 100000 mile warranty.  Ford states battery is
degrading.
HELP  Thanks

What Bernie said. I live in a colder climate. As soon as the ambient temp drops below 50 overnight the charge drops to under 12 miles in an unheated garage. That's using the 110 volt wall charger that comes in the spare tire well. (BTW, there's a recall on those chargers due to a bad thermistor. ) people local to me who invested the $3-$5 K to add a 240 volt charger to their garages tell me they do not have this issue. Basically, the lower charge rate is due to a combination of factors, including the fact that lithium ion battery packs start losing potential storage once they get cold. Which just happens,to be at around 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

I have a 2013 Fusion Energi with <60k miles, I'm having the same issues. Battery goes maybe 7-9miles on a charge, State of charge % is all over the place. It is clear the battery is way degraded. I'm located in CA where I think we have a 10yr / 100k warranty on all driveline parts of plug in hybrids... anyone know more?

2014 Ford Fusion Says manual says "The Lithium-ion battery (EV battery) will experience gradual capacity loss with time and use (similar to all lithium-ion batteries), which is considered normal wear and tear. Loss of battery capacity due to or resulting from gradual capacity loss is NOT covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. The Merriam-Webster.com says gradual adjective grad·u·al | \ ˈgra-jə-wəl , -jəl, ˈgraj-wəl \ Definition of gradual (Entry 1 of 2) 1: moving, changing, or developing by fine or often imperceptible degrees 2: proceeding by steps or degrees The word is not listed in that statement. I do understand that Ford does not like to speak of Miles (only in advertisement) but still max charge when new was 5.4kw-5.8kw at 86,000 I am lucky to get 2.1kw to 2.7kw that is more than 50% loss that is not gradual. Also The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, passed by Congress in 1975, is the federal law that governs consumer product warranties . The Act requires manufacturers and sellers of consumer products to provide consumers with clear and detailed information about warranty coverage. There is nothing clear or detail about there warranty statement.

2014 Fusion Energi Titanium with 160,000 miles on original batteries. Still get about 16-19 miles EV per charge which I consider great. It’s been a huuuge investment that’s paid dividends. Best tank of fuel range was 990 miles...no typo. I use that battery for all it’s worth. If ya know how to drive a hybrid or PHEV, you can make these things “work” much better!! Lifetime average is 52.1mpg

Check tire pressure. I would recommend to inflate it a little bit higher then recommended. This adds ~2 miles. Also speed does matter. Mine can run only 10 miles with 80 MPH, but with 60 MHP I can go as far as 16 miles. Also you can monitor battery using MyFord mobile application. Mine Energy 2015 I bought in 2017 and it shows 4.2 KWH on a full discharge since these times. (Now is 2021).

My 2017 Energi dropped to about 11 miles before the car even hit 60,000 miles. The battery and charging system have an 8 year warranty. I ended up taking it to two Ford dealerships and they won't cover it. Said as long as the battery lasts 0 - 25 miles, it's within the Ford specs. So you're not alone there.

My 2019 Ford Fusion Energi is going through the same thing right now. Went from 20-22 miles per charge- maybe 18-20 at the least in the winter- to 11-15 miles per charge. I only have 38,000 miles on this 4 year old car. The dealership told me that the battery needed a $500 manual charge. I did that, now I get 11 miles per charge and the wrench light popped on this morning. They told me the same thing as Guru- that as long as it charges 0-25 then there's nothing wrong with it.
