I need ALOT of help!!! 1985 Ford Thunderbird 5.0 EFI Upgrade???

Asked by kmlcmd Aug 03, 2013 at 02:27 AM about the 1985 Ford Thunderbird Elan RWD

Question type: Car Customization

I have a 1985 Ford Thunderbird with the 5.0 302 EFI, I need to know what upgrades I can do with the EFI platform and what I'd have to do with the computer. I want new cams, new heads, and I was wondering if a supercharger would work with the EFI. Another thing that confused me is the fast that it has what appears to be a carburetor on it yet it is EFI, How does that work? I want to give this car alot more power, but I have never worked with the EFI system.

The fuel injection system is also known as a Throttle Body or Central Fuel Injection. Honestly, your best bet for performance is to go to port fuel injection. Port, especially SEFI sprays the fuel directly at each intake valve as it closes. The increase in horsepower and torque is remarkable. Of course you'd need to change out the computer, entire intake system and fuel pump but that's a start. In my opinion, either buy a late-model donor car or just buy a hot rod. The 5.0L CFI in your T-Bird is a family cruiser. Of course, that's my opinion.
