I have a 2013 Ford focus SE HATCHBACK that has the recalls on the transmission, I took it to the local dealer as we have begun experiencing the shudder and loss of power and the dealer just called stating it is the actuators which of course are not under the recall and said it is going to cost $2,500 and that it may not fix the problems and may have to be brought back of the shudder isn't fixed. I don't have that kind of money laying around and do not know what to do or if they are trying to rip me off which to me is what it sounds like. HElp!!!!!

How many miles on this vehicle? If it were mine I would have them do any recalls that are outstanding and possible have them service (change fluid) the transmission and proceed from there. If you think they are trying to rip you off go to a different dealership.

The car has a little over 80k miles on it, it just doesn't make sense why they want me to spend $2500 if as they said it may not fix it and will have to be checked out again after they replace them. Why spend the money if they don't think it will fix it...this is killing me as I need this car for work....

That what I thought since they have so many issues with them they should replace the parts and see if it fixed the problem instead of trying to charge me $2500

Same problem here, dealer said it was the actuators and I had to pay to replace them since they were not under warranty. My solution, I won’t take the car to the dealer for any routine service anymore. I’ll do it myself or pay someone else.

Have them check your purge valve, and the vapor canister as well as the purge solenoid. They will try to tell you to change out the fuel tank as that is the "recommendations" from Ford, because the fuel filter is in the gas tank. You can do just the purge valve even if they tell you otherwise and see if that fixes the issue.

Have you tried to tell them that you just want them to take care of the recall problem that they are legally bound to fix, before you will allow them to do anything else on your car or change anything else either.. Because if they can't take care of the recall, you don't think you would be able to trust them to do any other work. A lot of times just telling them that will make them do the recall item. In which actually turns out to be the only problem. If that doesn't work, you can try going through another dealer, or threaten to take them to court for not changing the recalled item. That usually works. Another thing, if you are at the point of the threat, keep your voice and face as calm and pleasant during your conversation. Until you start the threat and then even though you are still speaking calmly and pleasantly, you make your face look like you are ready to kill someone. Something about doing this usually works a lot better. I guess it's the old adage "you catch more bees with honey".
