I have a 1999 Dodge Avenger ES V-6. When I turn it over, it takes about 3 seconds of cranking before it starts up. during this time, it sounds like it's backfiring through the intake, but i'm not sure. The car has a brand new distributer cap and rotor, spark wires, spark plugs, and it has a K&N air intake... is there anything I can do to get the car to start up like a normal car and not backfire through the intake? And as far as backfiring, it's only once. It does one big pop and it starts right up. Thanks!

delay start? popping/backfire thru intake but you're not sure.... gotta love those types of descriptions!!! those symptoms can usually be associated with a leaky fuel injector or bad FPR, being on a 97+ the fpr is all the way in the back, i would rule that out... so i would tend to lean towards a fuel injector that's leaky and dumping fuel all the time into the cylinder, and as you goe to start it, its burning out b4 it actually fires off... either way, backfire thru intake usually is associated with a enrichment issue.
