Rear window shattered

My rear window shattered today.  A replacement is scheduled: however, once
the shattered glass was removed, the car is dead.  Is this normal?

No. Something drained the battery. (make sure ignition wasn't accidentally left on). Then pull fuse for rear window defroster, as it may be shorted.
