2013 Not starting

Asked by tjcopleysmith Dec 05, 2018 at 03:30 PM about the 2013 Lexus ES 350 FWD

Question type: General

To start the car, I push on the brake - it felt stiff and nothing happens like there's
no power.  This has happened twice - both times and we have had cold
weather (although in the garage). If I open the door and shut it . the
dash/instrumental lights come on and then, I can push on the brake and push
the button to start .. any ideas what's causing this issue?

That original battery is probably going dead. Recharge it, jump it, and try again. You may want to remove it and take it for load testing. It doesn't take much battery power to light the dash, but it's too weak to crank the engine over. And that stiff brake pedal is normal when the engine is not running to provide vacuum to the brake booster. It will soften up once the engine starts. Not to worry. That's an easy fix.
