Engine Swap

Asked by 01DodgeDakota Apr 22, 2019 at 12:23 PM about the 2001 Dodge Dakota Sport Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Car Customization

I have a 2001 4.7L V8 Dodge Dakota and it's getting to the end of it's life. So, I
am wanting to know what Engine I can swap into it with the stock transmission
and stock everything else. I know i could put a 4.7 back into it just wondering if I
could do a 5.7 or 5.9 or something else? Thanks in advance for the help!

Yes, other engines will fit. The problem is there is a large amount of work required when you replace a different size engine in a vehicle. Motor mounts, exhaust system, transmission, emissions, gauges, wiring, etc. All of this needs to be figured out. If you are paying a garage to figure all this out, it will be a very expensive endeavor.

Do you know if the 5.7 would bolt directly up to the 4.7 transmission or am I going to have to get a whole new transmission?
