Alarm won't shut off

Asked by Xdwx05 Mar 11, 2013 at 10:31 PM about the 2002 Dodge Stratus R/T Coupe FWD

Question type: General

I left the doors open while detailing
the inside, (which probably died the
battery out) and accidentally ran my
keyless entry through the wash. The
alarm randomly went off on its own
and couldn't shut it off until I
unhooked the negative cable. When I
reconnected the negative it was still
on, 5 days later. I tried locking and
unlocking with the key itself and with
the lock/unlock buttons on the
keyless entry.
Even tried passenger side, and
drivers side. Put the key in the
ignition, turned to on,and the lights
flashed on the dash and made a
clicking sound. The alarm stopped,
when I pulled the key back to off and
out, the alarm resumed.
Should I try disconnecting the
positive cable and if that doesn't
work, what the heck is going on!?

Makes me MAD that they only issue one key with these hoity-toity embedded problematic access systems-

It's been drying out for the last 5 days and I tried it today again and it's still going off. The dealership doesn't have another one to match my car either. It's frustrating. As long as I have the negative disconnected it doesn't make a sound.

one guy says take the relay for the alarm system out---the lights will continue to flash for three minutes...another mechanic of 38 years says if you disable the alarm, will dis-able the car as well....personally do not give a whole lot of credence to the info on the WWW, but it's something....instead of nothing.

There's 3 fuses that are for the horn. I don't see one for the alarm itself. I'm wondering if I should just take all 3 out but I don't want to trigger anything else

You know out in California, where it's 18% humidity a moisture laden key will take a week, perhaps where it is 38% humidity five or ten days ain't long enough...water will penetrate...and perhaps getting a fresh battery for your key/remote control will fix you up, because water is probably going to deaden-ify your cell in there! Get it nice and hot, like on a dashboard (in the sun) warmer temperatures will activate the juice on your batt as well.

found a bank of three relays, responsible for door locks- look at your relay box (probably under the hood) those three fuses were in a box? the roadmap to those shoud be nearby, so you can tell if the alarm is one, instead of all!

as far as your fuse block, word on the street is "check your manual" which, I don't have access to...but I know the nature of the beast and somewhere in white ink shows the electrical components all mapped out with approximate relative location, with legends explaining what's what.

certainly in this Great Land of America, there's a Dodge dealer in every town...one of 'em has got to be able to hook you up!

...and the body control module needed to be reprogrammed or some or other inconvenient modern thing there~...for sure~

I just found it in my Dodge Stratus SE, owners manual. Connect battery, close and lock all doors and close trunk, doors and hood. Use your key to unlock drivers door, or passenger door, or trunk. Alarm should reset.
