Mine just did this too! I'm under warranty and they want me to pay 100 for them to fix it

Just fixed mine myself........press the climate control power button and the defrost button at the same time, then press the climate control again.......instant fix! Thankfully, because it is miserably hot today!

Jcp436 - what button are you calling the "climate control power button"? My luck I would do the wrong button combo and reset my radio stations!

Got a notification of a question about the climate control button...it is the power button, the one you use to change the temperature setting. Press it along with the defrost button. Then press the climate control button again. Presto! Lol

Thanks for the fix. Hot air on passenger and backseat vents and cold air on driver side. Husband is out of town this week and had no one to pick me up at the dealer...glad I googled instead of suffering through this 90 degree weather!!!

I am so glad I ask you guys. Now I have to just do this for heat to work and then when it's time for AC do it again. Thank you so much.

Are you pressing buttons on the screen or the dashboard under the screen? I’m having no luck!

You guys are awesome!!! I decided to google the problem before I went to the dealership. 72 might reguire heat in other places but, in Texas it’s still AC weather!

Wonderful fix!!! This has happened to me numerous times (hot & cold), and has been pricey at the shop. Can't believe there is such a simple solution. Thank you!

@jcp436 do you know anything about ford explorer blowing warm on drivers side and cold on passenger while heat is on? Same fix you posted earlier?

@GuruXX2HN, I am having the same issue. Did you find a solution?

210

I have a 2018 Ford Focus. My issue is warm air only on the driver's side, right vent. Only one vent that is dorked up. If I put the a/c very cold, it seems to be ok, but then when I move the temp up a few degrees, the bottom of the vent on the right side of the steering wheel is warmer. Any clues?

This has happened to me twice now. The first time i tried the fix it didn't work and eventually several days later the A/C started working properly again. It happened again yesterday. Tried this fix and it worked but it took about 4 or 5 times to get the sequence to work. I don't remember exactly how but one thing I noticed. When I got the sequence correct of pressing the buttons, the colored ambient lights started flashing. I waited for that to finished then restarted the A/C and everything worked!!! Thanks!!

I used the "push climate control and defrost buttons simultaneously followed by pushing the climate control button" and it fixed the hot air blowing on the driver's side problem. Thank you!

Thanks did this and instant fix may not last but can repeat when needed. Dealership quoted 4 to 10 hours labor and tearing my dash apart!! wow A life saver for now!

Mine also has a leak underneath on the drivers side. Would the hot air be causing that and would resetting it help fix it?

7 people found this helpful.
220

jcp436...Thanks. It worked perfectly on my 2013 Ford Edge SEL. With the A/C on, the car was blowing cold air on the drivers side and hot air on the passenger side. Within less than 30 seconds...bam...cold air all around. Thanks again!

What is the climate button I should be pushing? I did this last night and it worked. Of course again on my ride home today the same problem starts but this time I can’t get it

11 people found this helpful.
510

Do I need to hold both the climate and defrost buttons and wait for something to happen before pressing the climate button again? Or do I just hit them simultaneously and instantly release and press the climate immediately after? Thanks

220

All I did was hold both in for a couple of seconds, then release and press the climate control button.

Thank you Jcp436!!! You're awesome :) I woke up today and my drivers side was blasting hot air (in my 2013 ford edge limited). This is the first thing I googled since I realized it was still working on the other side, and it worked on the first try! I seriously appreciate this thread!

I tried the reset with the Climate Control button and the Defrost button but it didn't work. My wife's 2013 Ford Edge Sport was blowing hot air on driver's side and cold air on passenger side. I went ahead and unplugged the HVAC actuator while the car was running and plugged it back in...presto, problem solved. The actuator on the driver's side is located down below the dash above the brake and accelerator pedals. It's a green plastic clip...just release this and plug back in. For passenger side, you may have to remove glove box to access the actuator. Should solve the problem. Good luck everyone!

110

Thanks for the tips. The button solution didn't work for me but I was able to find the green clip . It was not all the way in so I'm assuming that was what the problem was. I plugged it back in and now it works. Gotta love Google!

Wow!! The best advice I’ve gotten from the internet ever! I’ve been driving around for 3 days in 92 degrees plus VA weather with heat coming from all passengers side vents........ I thought we where going to die. Thank you so much lifesaver ❤️

2 people found this helpful.

I did it a couple of times with no luck, but 3rd time was a charm! Working good as new! Thank you!!

Does the fix last? Went through this this week in 97 degree weather on a 3-hour drive. I probably lost 5 pounds in sweat. I had fixed/reprogramming done with my local repair shop for $127 but only lasted 2 weeks on this originally. Hot air on passenger side again. The next re-programming was quoted to be $250 but they couldn't fit me in this weekend so I landed here. Took me a couple tries but seems to be working now Yea & Thank You! Wondering if this is a temporary fix those who have gone through this...

Fyi - had to turn engine off then pushed panel power for radio & heater/AC controls along with defrost. Then push panel power again. This is on a 2014 Ford Limited with dual control.

60

The power button and defrost button at the same time followed by the power button again TOTALLY WORKED. I had to try a few times, but when you get it right the colored ambient lights all over the cabin cycle through the colors. The first time I got it it actually SWITCHED the hot/cold sides and iv was then getting cold on driver side and hot on passenger! Did it again and then turned off the vehicle and back on and all is good! Awesome! 2013 Ford Edge Limited

On a 2013 Edge Limited with dual climate control there are three actuators. Two are on drivers side and one on passenger side. Location of the drivers side is above break pedal for both stacked above each other with green plugs. Passenger side is behind glove box on the left. Unplug each one and plug them back in and the drivers side started blowing cold air again.

Hello, Thank you for the answer from jcp436. It worked for my 2013 Ford Edge Limited. To help clarify, I had to press the buttons on my dash NOT the buttons on my touch screen. I didnt see any lights flashing.. but it was during the daytime...

This is an amazing quick fix. I was able to do it with my 2013 Ford Edge Limited multiple times (mainly bc I didn’t want to spend the money to get it fixed). Finally it got to the point it would not work. Ended up having to have the passenger blend door actuator replaced for less than $200. Since replacing I have not had any issues once so ever!

Did you try it on the driver's side as well. It took me 3 times to get it to work. I guess it's a timing thing. There's another suggestion in the thread by TeamFirst_13, maybe that would work better?

I have a 2008 Edge, when air is on, it blows cool air on the drivers side, hot air on the passenger side. The power button can be pushed on top to increase temp and down for temp decrease. Which do I push along with the defrost button?

Thank you @ jcp436. Mine has been working improperly for almost a year now. When the AC or heat was on it was blowing out cold air on drivers side and hot on passenger. I just tried this fix and it worked!!!! You just saved me a few hundred dollars. Thanks so much!!!

If push buttons didn’t work for you (my case) and you have dual climate control. Switch the car off. Go down in the driver side. Unplug the green plug for a moment and plug it again and you will hear like an electrical motor sound. And issue will fixed.

Thanks jcp436! Just noticed my 2013 Ford Edge Sport had the driver side max cold, while temp adjustments would only change on the passenger side. Didn’t notice it because of the 90-106 summer temps. After our first DFW, TX cold front on 10/11/19, I noticed only the passenger side was getting heat, while the driver side was still COLD. I ran my BlueDriver diagnostic tool, but it didn’t report any system module codes. Luckily this HVAC reset worked! After initiating, I heard a few clicks under the dash, the ambient lights cycled through the colors, then back to my blue setting. Climate control is working normally now. Big help!

Our 2013 Ford Edge has the Microsoft Sync system and independent driver/passenger climate control. To fix ours, the auto had to be STARTED with the climate control OFF. Then press the driver's side climate control button and the A/C. The blower will start on HI for both sides, hold the buttons until the top line of the display blinks. Release the buttons, and all is well. The guy that did the repair on this last week is gonna be REALLY happy to hear this! Looks like he won't have to tear the dash apart again...

I’m like the rest who was amazed by this fix.....it worked, held down climate control button and defrost button at same time for few seconds, then pressed climate control on and off button, it worked, can’t believe I didn’t google months ago. Went through a summer with hot air blowing out of passenger side. Those silly fords

My ford edge sport model 2013 also had same issue. It worked. Now AC is working on both side. Thanks for information....

I had the same problem on my 2014 Ford Edge Limited a couple of days ago, ac blowing hot air on drivers side and cold air on passenger side. I followed jcp436 recommendations and it worked. I was about to go to have it serviced and could have cost a bundle.

My blend door lever broke on my driver side called ford up to see if the got a replacement blend door and they told me i had to buy the whole interior hvac box. Anyone know any solution to get blend door to heat i have 3 kids one of them is a newborn and need ac

jcp436 Wooo-hoooo! jcp436, can't thank you enough for your answer on how to reset AC- --one side hot, one side cold. You answered about a year ago, but it is HOT in Iowa now and this 73 year old mama is HOT [ well, as in temperature ;-) ] and she is very grateful to you for the easy fix. I'm not sure where to post this comment and hope you get the message of THANKS!

Like so many others, this thread was a God-send for me too! The panel-button sequences did not work on my 2014 Edge Limited, but the second attempt at the "green-plug-solution" worked! Canceled my appointment at the garage, which would have kept the car for 3 days due to their swamped A/C crew. THANKS!

I have tried pressing the two buttons and have also unplugged the green plug but neither have worked for a 2011 Ford Edge. Any other suggestions? I really do not want to go to the dealership.

10

Man jcp436 thank you so much for the info. This saved my trip to ford tommorrow no telling what they would have charged your a life saver wish I could send ya a bottle.

2010 edge dual control. Did hvac reset/didn't work. Replaced blend damper actuator/ didn't work. Checked refrigerant level/barely low/added a bit of refrigerant/ works like a charm. Could not believe a slightly low charge would cause hot air on driver side and perfectly cold on passenger side

I brought my 2010 Ford Edge Limited to the local repair shop today and he said it would take 2-3 days to look at it since he’s swamped. He would charge $65 to diagnose the problem. But he thought that it could be a dealership problem - that might cost like $2500 to fix! He said it’s a common ford problem! Then I googled, found this, and it worked! Thank y’all so much... I hope it lasts!

Disconnected battery and left disconnected for 10 minutes and reconnected. I had pushed the buttons previously with no luck. Pushed climat/defrost then climate when I restarted after battery hooked up-everything worked. Not sure if the battery disconnect would have worked on it's own. Something else to try if nothing else works.

2014 Ford Edge Sport here. Just an fyi, I've had this problem twice now. The button pressing on the controls has sadly never worked for me (after about 700 attempts). The only success I had initially (as mentioned in multiple other posts) was unplugging the green connector. However this most recent time that wasn't working either. After a few hours of unplugging and re-plugging that cable I got on my back and looked directly above it. There is a second identical connector that is quite a bit further under the steering column. I was able to reach it without removing the panel but it was difficult. I unplugged both connectors and left them unplugged for about 10 seconds. After I turned the car back on thankfully it was blasting cold air from all vents. If unplugging the first connector doesn't work for you give this a try. 2020 has been a crap year, and a car without ac would have been the last straw for me. Hopefully if this works for you it will make your year a little better.

So, 9 months ago in the winter I had the driver side blowing cold, while the passenger side was blowing hot as it was supposed to. I did this fix, it worked, no problems. Just now, 8/4/20, summer time, garage parked, barely putting any miles on due to COVID-19, I get in the 2013 Edge Sport at 11pm and it’s blowing hot on the driver’s side, and cold on the passenger side as it’s supposed to. It was fine on 8/2/20. So, I did this fix again, and it worked again. So it works whether it’s blowing hot or cold when it’s not supposed to. I updated my photo for clearer instructions, too.

WOW. So amazing to have you share this tip. I have a 2013 Ford Edge SEL and pushing the climate control and defrost buttons simultaneously followed by pushing the climate control button worked. I did have to do it twice. But now, no more hot air coming out of driver side vent. Saved me a trip to Ford dealer. Thank you. Thank you.

10

If you have a different year try climate control button, front and regular off button at the same time then climate control again after. On a 2014 we had to hold all three or it won't work.

How hard is it to replace the blend door actuator? Seems like it's hard to get to on the videos I've watched.

200

GuruGWMK8- I have to keep doing it as well but the they wanted to charge me $1100 - $1300 to fix so will keep doing it. I did have reset at my mechanics shop. They warned me it may not work. The charge was $150, it worked for 2 weeks.

1 people found this helpful.
10

Mine is blowing warm on both sides. I had my mechanic look at it and he said the freon was good. He didn't have the computer to connect to the car so he couldn't diagnose it further. It was hot on the drivers side and cool on the passenger side so I changed the drivers blend door actuator and now it is cool on both sides but not cold like it should be. Is there a heater blend door that may be stuck and allowing heat in when it should not be? If so, where do I look for that?

I have a 2014 ford edge that has this problem. The reset thing did not fix my problem. I had to do what another guy wrote and reach up under dash driver side and unplug green switch and re plug it. I always have to do it this was .I did it this morning .not the first green switch the one op higher

I don't have push buttons. Any idea how to do it on a manual operated ac system with knobs? 2010 Ford Edge

1 people found this helpful.

2014 Edge here with with the Sony control panel (buttons are on the side/bottom). It took ten or so tries, but it finally worked when I stopped trying to push both buttons at the same time. Power first and hold, then press the defrost and hold both buttons down for a count of ten. Release and press the power button and release. Count to ten. Turn the system back on and it worked.

Guys, I read almost all the threads in this article. I tried. It is not working for me. I have ford fusion 2015 hybrid. Hot air on driver side cold air on passenger side. Steps I followed. 1. Turn on the car (ac was off) 2. Press the power and defrost button together (ac started) 3. Holded it for 10 counts 4. Released both buttons at same time. (Ac was continue to be on) 5. Again pressed power button. (Ac turned off) 6. Again press power button to start the ac. Am I doing anything wrong ?
