2012 Kia Sportage Timing Belt

Asked by Ronald Apr 22, 2019 at 05:09 PM about the 2012 Kia Sportage LX AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2012 Sportage. Its not my daily driver. I have 47,000 miles on it. Dealer
specs for changing timing belt is 60K miles or 6yrs. Im over the 6yrs but under
the 60K. Do I need to follow the 6yr rule or is it safe to wait until I hit 60K?

The reason they suggest 60K OR 6 years is because the timing belt is composed of rubber. Over the years, the belt will crack and become less flexible. Not sure if it is still under warranty however, they would not pay for repairs if the belt broke and you were out of their recommended replacement schedule. If you are planning on keeping the vehicle, I would recommend replacing the belt and tensioner
