2006 Dodge Charger R/T

Asked by HungSoloAD Feb 01, 2013 at 01:45 PM about the 2006 Dodge Charger R/T RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm doing the first general maintenance on my charger, and am going with Royal Purple oil, but wanted to know the best oil filter, and air filter to maximize power and efficiency. I use high octane gas at all times. Is there something I should use periodically to make sure there isn't a lot of build up?

This is my 2nd time owning an 06 R/T...want to make sure this one lasts as long as possible...any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Well Im a diesel guy, with a high performance diesel truck, I drag race in a 700whp and up class, I only use AMSoil products. my truck is also a daily driver. and hands down AMSoil motor oil and their new line of nanofiber filters are the best things you will ever touch. the truck has had AMSoil products in it since day 1 and with almost 300,000 miles on it, it still has the factory crosshatching.

K&N air filters are fine on any vehicle thats naturally aspirated. In my expirience using K&N filters on any thing with forced induction for example a turbo diesel, you actually end up sand blasting the compressor wheel and compressor housing. but on a NA engine theyre fine. the only reason I run my AMSoil in my truck to 15,000 miles is because A my truck holds 17.5 qts of oil (after market oil cooler, and oil centrifuge added) I also send a sample of oil out every 5,000 miles to a laboratory to get an analysis that measures how the oil wears, and any particles it picks up in the engine. I run AMSoil in my little honda civic beater as well just because im a dealer and I get it cheap, I change the oil in that every 10,000 miles and send an analysis out as well for that car. you cant say oil is oil.

Im not saying that AMSoil isnt good stuff or that it won't extend your oil life, im just saying you dont need to use high dollar oil to make your engine last a long time. I've had vehicles go 200,000+ miles with no problems using regular conventional oil and changing it every 3k. I have a couple customers with Sprinter vans that send oil out for analysis and they have those high micron filters and stuff, seems to work really well.

My answer was based on the fact that he was asking about a Charger R/T and I assumed it was a reg. hemi.

Like I said I lifted the head on my truck to put a new head gasket and add ARP head studs, and all the cylinders still had near factory crosshatching at 300,xxx miles. Im a general diesel tech meaning I work on any thing and every thing with diesel engines, the only engines Im not explicitly certified to work on are the building sized ones in like cruise ships and frieghters and stuff haha. But I mostly build and tune performance diesels, any who, Ive personally seen AMSoil not only gain 1.5 MPG in a 6.0 powerstroke truck, but also completely take care of injector stiction issues caused by lower quality oils. again on the same truck a 2005 king ranch F250 6.0 turbo diesel, when dynoed with Rotella T6 5w40 synthetic, made a maximum of 526 hp at 3000 RPM. the truck was dynoed 6 times. 3 with the rotella and 3 with the amsoil, the pulls with AMSoil were consistently over 530HP each time, the Rotella actually dropped to 519 during the 3rd run.
