my oil light came on and stays on im only 1/2 qt low on oil

2003 Chrysler sebring convertible a fuse blue and would not let car start husband changed it started this am and drove little and oil light came on and stayed on I am only 1/2 qt low on oil any sugestions as to what it could be

The "oil light" senses pressure not oil level... stop driving until it's determined what the problem is or you risk destroying your engine

My 1989 Sebring did the same thing, I replaced the oil pressure sending unit, light went off and stays off, have driven 25,000 miles since replacing it.
