Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I bought a 2004 Chrysler Sebring
Limited Convertible with 2.7L engine. I
drove it home and that night, I went for a
drive. 5 miles down the road I noticed my
car died. So I parked it on a residential
street and tried to start it. It sounded like
the starter was very weak. It would crank
one rotation and click. Almost sounded like
low compression but it wasn't overheating.
Checked oil and coolant for contamination
and both were clean. I got someone to give
me a Jump and it didn't work.
The next day, I checked the battery, had
12volts. Tapped on the starter and nothing
happened.
So I took the starter and the battery out
and took it to the nearest Oreilly. The
starter is good and the battery didn't have
enough cranking amps. So I bought a new
battery and a starter for the heck of it and
still nothing. I can tell that the battery
helped a tad but still only cranks one
rotation and clicks. (returned the starter).
I checked starter fuse/ relay, good.
Checked the ASD relay (auto shut down),
good.
I thought that maybe the engine is
somewhat seized. Emptied oil and seemed
half full.
I tried turning the crankshaft pulley and it
would not budge. So I took a video of the
crank pulley to see if it actually turns over
When I try to start it and it does.
I'm lost at this point.
Possibly a grounding issue? Almost
sounds like the starter is not getting
enough power or the engine in general
since it died. I'm just hoping the engine is
not seized.
I am mechanical enclined and have lots of
tools to do the repairs as well as a
voltmeter.
Thank your for the help.

It's hard to turn a crank by hand without a big breaker bar, you have to pull plugs to relieve compression. You have a sluggish starter, a confirmed good battery - I'd check those battery cables for corrosion, worn or loose terminals, and I'd definitely check the starter ground. A voltage drop test across the starter may help, another test is amps drawn during cranking, if it's excessive, the starter is working too hard. (for a V6 should draw about 170-180 amps.)

Ok awesome, so probably not a bad engine. The guy I bought it from said his battery died and he bought a Walmart battery and since then, every time he would start, the starter sounded sluggish. I was thinking he battery he put in the car didn't have enough cranking amps but its what the car requires. But yes battery was confirmed bad. Not enough cranking amps. I did check the cables from and too the battery and no cuts, tears or corrosion. I will definitely check again in the morning. I did notice that when removing and installing the Starter, the ground cable going to the starter was a tad rusted. And I tried turning the car on, one rotation and click and held the key still to see what happens and noticed smoke coming from the starter which got extremely hot. Tomorrow, or I should say in the morning, I will check battery cables, ground, voltage drop test and amps. Still doesn't explain why the car would die. Unless the battery randomly put out to many amps to the alternator causing it to die and now to much to the starter causing a no start. I never liked doing electrical work. Guess now is the time to learn ha.

the guy you bought it from is sure glad that car is gone! And why would you buy a used car that you have to mess with? There's the problem-

Yeah I'm sure he is. Well It wasn't supposed to have any issues otherwise I wouldn't have bought it.
