Question type: General

Hi, I am looking at a 2012 VW EOS but people keep metioning the Air Bags. So just wondering if you could give me the airbag specifics on a 2012 VW Eos. As far as when are they to go off and where your hit to make them go off. Thank you

NOT this model yet..Volkswagen Eos currently no recalls for this vehicle. Image an Air bag deploying in your face at 70 NIGHTMARE..Thanks,TAKATA. They might deploy as they like .. or NOT at all. TAKATA Airbag Recall: Volkswagen and Audi Recall 850,000 Cars. AND A FEW others! Vehicles made by 14 different automakers have been recalled to replace frontal airbags on the driver’s side or passenger’s side, or both in what NHTSA has called "the largest and most complex safety recall in U.S. history." The airbags, made by major parts supplier TAKATA, were mostly installed in cars from model year 2002 through 2015. Some of those airbags could deploy explosively, injuring or even KILLING (forget ISIS) car occupants. (Look for details below on waits for replacement airbags.)

But they did get a "Recall" on the air bags but no one has them in stock yet. I would just like the "Specifics" of them is you have that

A squib, an explosive charge inflates an air bag in milliseconds, the method of activation can be battery "lit" or capacitor fired, based on a 30 degree offset impact from front center. IS.. this what your looking for? If you want a full technical paper email.

http://www.carcomplaints.com/Volkswagen/Eos/2012/ this will tell you everything you need to know. And i did notice that the 2012 modals had the most complaints almsot out of all the yearly modals

Don't buy the EOS, we have a 2012 and VW will not replace the airbag since it is not available. They took out the old a few months back and put in another defective airbag and told me not to worry it will be fine for another 5 years. How funny is that, I have contacted my congressman as well as executives in VW and have gotten no where. Our VW has 5000 miles on it and has been sitting in our garage for several years.

The defect in the air bag is corrosion related, so them telling you it will be fine for 5 years is correct as it will take longer than that for the corrosion to affect a new bag. The defect has only affected a very small minority of vehicles, and worldwide there have been so far (at last published count) 23 deaths since 2002 due to this problem. Compare that to over 30,000 road fatalities in USA in 2018. Personally I would feel much safer with a Takata airbag than with no airbag at all
